Gaga is a technique or movement language developed by Batsheva Dance Companyʼs artistic
director Ohad Naharin. There are two types of Gaga classes: Gaga/Dancers is a class constructed
for dancers and people that dance on a professional or regular basis, and Gaga/People is for
everyone with the love and passion for movement (non dancers).
Gaga challenges multi layer tasks. There are a series of words that signify particular ways or
qualities of movement. These images help us connect to the different sensations in our body, and
the body parts involved, and enable us to find availability and pleasure in our movement.
The class is meant to allow dancers to experience dynamics of movement, a stimulation of the
senses and the imagination. We will be searching for more freedom in our movement, focusing
on gaining knowledge and self awareness through our body in a multi dimensional manner. We will
explore our passion to move, physical effort, virtuosity, musicality, explosiveness, improvisation
and individual expression.
Using the powerful tool of pleasure and guiding images we encourage creativity and curiosity in
order to gain awareness, alertness and playfulness.
GYROKINESIS® was created by a dancer, for dancers and was initially called Yoga for Dancers.
The system is inspired by a variety of techniques and skills such as yoga, dance, gymnastics,
swimming and Tai Chi. It incorporates a series of rhythmic and undulating movements that work
the muscular and skeletal systems. Fluidity is the key.
Exercises are performed in correspondence to breathing patterns, connecting breath and
movement. The breathing patterns associated with the movement stimulate the nervous system
and stretch and strengthen the muscles and connective tissues. Exercises are performed on a
stool, on the floor and standing.
These are the two possibilities I propose for repertoire class:
Repertoire from my last creation “Bark” which premiered in Mind The Gap Festival 2011 and is
continuing to tour. “Bark” is a solo work that through physical expression deals with the human as a
The second option I can provide is repertoire from Örjan Andersson/Andersson Dance (SE) last
piece “Name of the Next Song” which I was a creating part of. The piece in inspired by the baroque
painter George de la Toure in correspondence to natural soundscapes.
